Dodd-Frank Bill and the Mortgage Industry 3 Months in

July 1st, 2011

It has now been over three months since the Dodd Frank Bill was enacted, affecting  the mortgage industry as a whole. The take on it from industry professionals is that it has made business  much, much more difficult due to requirements to meet  the regulations. Many more  man-hours are required just to comply with them. Now that we have seen the full effect of the bill,it is clear it has affected two groups and two groups only-individual loan officers who facilitate  the transactions, and the consumers themselves. From what we have noticed, interest rates about a quarter different in the negative, with a higher rate for the burrower. The loan officer is making about 15-20% less. The companies and  banks that the bill targeted  have not felt the effect—the expenses just been passed to  the consumer.

QR Codes Advertising in Clark County WA

June 20th, 2011

We have started using QR codes in  most of our VA advertising in Clark County WA. QR codes are pretty amazing. The smart phone has the capability to go directly to a webpage instead of requiring the user to  type in the URL to get to a web destination. I look forward to continuing to use QR codes to make the process smoother.

VA Loans At a all Time High in Clark County WA

May 9th, 2011

VA loans in Clark County Washington are currently at an all-time high. VA loans are just behind cash offers for the majority of all home purchases  being completed right now, which is pretty much unheard-of, since there is no military installation within the vicinity of Clark County WA. Most people don’t know or understand that there are so many Veterans out there. VA home loans are one of their best options.

Memorial Day Ceremony

May 4th, 2011

The Community Military Appreciation Committee would like to invite you to attend a Memorial Day ceremony at the Vancouver Barracks, 987 McClellan Road on Monday May 30th at 11am.  They are asking the military attendees to come in uniform and civilians to wear business casual.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day. There is also evidence that organized women’s groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, “Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping” by Nella L. Sweet carried the dedication “To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead” (Source: Duke University’s Historic American Sheet Music, 1850-1920). While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it’s difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. It is more likely that it had many separate beginnings; each of those towns and every planned or spontaneous gathering of people to honor the war dead in the 1860’s tapped into the general human need to honor our dead, each contributed honorably to the growing movement that culminated in Gen Logan giving his official proclamation in 1868. It is not important who was the very first, what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all. ”

The event is sponsored by Waste Connections.

Foreclosures in Clark County WA Are Down in 2011

April 22nd, 2011

Foreclosures in Clark County WA, are down about 29%. Foreclosures in the month of March were 272, compared to last year, 2010 at 334, and the height of 2009, 605. The fact that foreclosures are down is  obviously a good sign that there is the possibility that the banks are working more with their customers to go through and negotiate lower premiums.   The most improved area are Battle Ground WA, Ridgefield WA, Camas WA, and Washougal WA.  From the inside, in my opinion, it has more to do with the delay of the foreclosure processing. Yes, in some cases people are selling  a home before it goes into foreclosure, but I think a lot of foreclosures in the last 60 to 90 days have been delayed due to what was happening and how foreclosures were being treated. So, only Pierce and Snohomish counties ranked worse than Clark County WA, where  1 out of 600 homes were in foreclosure in the month of March. In Feburary, it was 1 in every 426. The lenders are just making a great deal of effort to negotiate and to settle or modify by the law versus going to the next step of foreclosure.

Stride for Education runs for its Eigth Year

April 13th, 2011

Student Stride for Education is a 5K run/walk held at Washougal High School to raise money for teacher grants and student scholarships. Now in its eighth year “The Stride reflects our community’s commitment to education in and out of the classroom,” said WSF President Kyle Eakins. “It’s not just another run; it’s a show of solidarity and confidence in our children’s education and the teachers that provide it.”

There are multiple courses depending on age level and runners of all ages are welcome. Washougal High School is expecting 600 to 700 students, teachers and / or community members to attend. Registration forms are available at all Washougal schools, and Discovery Dental in Washougal, Washington.

What better way to get involved in your community. Come out and show your support for the Washougal school systems by walking or making a contribution. With all of the local budget cuts it is wonderful to know that our local Clark County communities are willing to do what it takes to help out the school. It shows our community spirit and how much sense of family there is in these small towns.

Clark County Parade of Homes 2011 Felida Area

April 12th, 2011

This year, the Parade of Homes is in Northwest Vancouver WA, near Salmon Creek. Its main focus this time is on baby boomers. The event goes from July 22 through August 7. There will be six homes featured in the Felida area, ranging from $500,000 in price and above. The main focus is on that age group that was born from 1946-1964. These homes feature one-level home living with all the extra amenities that people under the baby boomer age group want to have. This should be a great event for Clark County WA. It is always fun going to the Parade of Homes and look at all the new features and everything else they are putting inside houses. This is one of the strong events we have had in Clark County WA for some time.
